Event Description

Calgary’s Favourite Christmas Tradition — Now with a Brand-New Heritage Holiday Train Experience!

Step into a winter wonderland at Heritage Park’s Once Upon a Christmas, filled with festive charm, cozy wagon rides, carolers, visits with Santa and holiday magic around every corner.

New this year, make the season even brighter with the Heritage Holiday Train Add-On — the Park’s first-ever winter train ride aboard our new diesel-electric locomotive, complete with onboard entertainment and holiday cheer for all ages. For our Members, experience the Heritage Holiday Train Add-On or enjoy exclusive access to a magical caboose ride.

Wagon Rides

Hop on a traditional horse-drawn wagon for a magical ride through the Village! Create cozy moments with your loved ones as you takin in the wintery sights!

Stroll through the Park as roving carolers fill the air with the sounds of heartwarming, classic holiday tunes.

    Admission

    Enter through the Historical Village gates.

    • Members: Please have both your Membership card and Heritage Holiday Train ticket ready for scanning. There will be a designated line for guests with train tickets.

    • Non-Members: Please have your Once Upon a Christmas admission ticket and Heritage Holiday Train ticket ready for scanning. There will be a designated line for guests with train tickets.

    Boarding

    • Please arrive at Heritage Park one hour before your train time to allow for parking, entry and the 15-minute walk to Midnapore Station. Be at the station 10 minutes before departure.
    • If your train departs at 10 a.m., please arrive at the Park by 9:30 a.m. for early entry to reach the station on time.

    Accessibility & Strollers

    • An accessible shuttle bus operates inside the Park for guests with limited mobility.
    • Please note the Heritage Holiday Train railcars are not wheelchair accessible.
    • Accessing the Upper Caboose requires climbing a ladder. It is not recommended for those with limited mobility.
    • Strollers can’t go on the train but may be stored at Midnapore Station and picked up after your ride.

    Additional Train Ride Information

    • Ride Length: About 10–15 minutes, with two loops around the Park.
    • Restrooms: Available at Midnapore Station(none on board).
    • Children: All guests aged 17 and under must ride with an adult.
    • Conductors: Uniformed staff are happy to help you board and disembark safely.

    Weather & Ticket Policies

    • For everyone’s safety, train rides will be cancelled if temperatures reach –20°C (with or without wind chill). Tickets will still be valid for Once Upon a Christmas admission; however, refunds are not issued for weather-related cancellations. All sales are final.
    • Fair Entry and Canoo tickets are valid for Once Upon a Christmas admission only and do not include the Heritage Holiday Train. For assistance, contact Guest Services at 403.268.8500 or info@heritagepark.ca.

    What to Wear

    • Dress for the weather — the train cars have limited heating and the event takes place outdoors. Cozy layers, warm boots and mittens recommended!

    Enjoy a full day of festive fun and a magical train ride around Heritage Park!

    Members

    • Enter through the Historical Village gates.

    • Have both your Membership card and Heritage Holiday Train ticket ready for scanning. There will be a designated line for those with Once Upon a Christmas and train tickets.

    • Arrive at least one hour before your scheduled train ride to allow time for parking, entry and walking to Midnapore Station (about a 15 minute walk from the gates).

    • Please arrive at the station 10 minutes before your departure time. If your train leaves at 10 a.m., arrive at the Park by 9:30 a.m. for early entry.

    Non-Members

    • Enter through the Historical Village gates.

    • Have your Once Upon a Christmas admission ticket and Heritage Holiday Train ticket ready for scanning. There will be a designated line for those with Once Upon a Christmas and train tickets.

    • Look for the line marked Once Upon a Christmas + Heritage Holiday Train.

    • Arrive at least one hour before your train ride and plan to be at Midnapore Station 10 minutes before departure. Guests on the 10 a.m. train should arrive at the Park by 9:30 a.m.

    Once Upon a Christmas Admission Only (No Train)

    If you’re joining us for Once Upon a Christmas without the train experience, you’ll still enjoy full access to the Historical Village and all event activities from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

    Members

    • Show your Membership card at the Historical Village gates for free admission. There will be a designated line for those without train tickets.

    • Members enjoy unlimited visits throughout the event dates.

    Non-Members

    • Present your Once Upon a Christmas admission ticket at the Historical Village gates for scanning. There will be a designated line for those without train tickets.

  • Parking

    Parking: Paid parking is available in Heritage Park’s front lots. Members park for free! The Park Plus Zone number of the front lots is 8320. Click here for more information.

  • Fair Entry Fee Assistance Program
