Event Description

Step into a season of dance at Heritage Park, where culture, connection and community come together. Rooted in Indigenous traditions and shaped by resilience, these social dances honour courtship, joy and the enduring relationship between land and people. Blending Indigenous dances with historic influences like the Waltz and Foxtrot, each celebration invites you to watch dancers compete, then step into the circle yourself — because these living traditions are meant to be shared.

Schedule of Events

  • 10:00 a.m. – Doors open and registration begins for competitors
    • 11:00 a.m. – Traditional Prayer & Smudge, Indigenous & Ballroom Dancer’s grand entry.
      • Announcement of attending drum groups.
  • 12:00 p.m. – Oral history and demonstrations of the Rabbit and Owl Dances 
  • 12:30 p.m. – Oral history and demonstrations of the Foxtrot and the Waltz 
  • 1:00 p.m. – Rabbit and Owl Dance competition
  • 2:00 p.m. – Foxtrot and Waltz competition
  • 3:00 p.m. – Winners announced 
  • 3:30 p.m. – Style Swap! Indigenous and Ballroom competitors try each other’s dances 
  • 4:00 p.m. –Guests can learn the Foxtrot, the Waltz, the Rabbit, and the Owl dances 
  • 4:30 p.m. –  Round Dance finale

Know Before You Go

  • Self-Identifying Indigenous People

    Those who self-identify as Indigenous, please do not purchase a ticket ahead of time. To gain free entry to the event, please inform the front desk attendant. Note: seating and entry is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Competitor Information

    If you are participating in the dance competitions, you and your partner get free entry into the event. Please ensure to register at Gasoline Alley Museum at 10 a.m. on the day of each event.

  • Members and Non-Member Entry

    Entry to this event is included with a Heritage Park Membership. Non-Members are required to pay at the front desk, or they can pre-purchase by clicking HERE and selecting one of the dates for these events.

  • Getting to Heritage Park

    There are plenty of ways to get to the Park, whether that be on foot, via transit, or driving. Click here to find the way that works for you!

  • Parking

    • On arrival, please park in one of the main lots at the front of the Park.
    • Paid parking is available in Heritage Park’s front lots. 90 minute complimentary parking is available.
    • The Park Plus zone number is 8320.  Learn more about parking here.

  • On Arrival

    • Proceed to Gasoline Alley Museum and present your booking confirmation.

  • Refund Policy

    All bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable to a future event.
