About the Speaker

Joanne Kormylo is a Calgary-based author and lawyer whose debut novel, The Resistance Daughter (Hodder & Stoughton, 2025), is earning global praise for its emotional impact and historical accuracy. Inspired by her late father’s legacy as a WWII RCAF bomber pilot and prisoner of war, Kormylo mastered the art of weaving personal experience into a compelling narrative of courage and survival. Her research took her to the UK, Germany, and Poland, where she interviewed veterans, historians, and survivors to ensure authenticity. As a former board member of the Air Force Museum of Alberta and Aerospace Museum of Calgary, Joanne offers a uniquely Canadian perspective on war and memory. She lives in Calgary with her family and is currently at work on her next novel.
