As the whistle sounds and the train pulls away from the station, you’ll travel across the prairie to a classic railway whistle-stop town.
At the historic Wainwright Hotel, colourful characters and lively stories from the days when the train brought excitement to town. While you enjoy butter tarts, warm drinks and prairie treats, you’ll experience the music, laughter and mischief that once greeted travelers along the railway line.
Then it’s back aboard for the ride home across the wide prairie.
This special early-season experience runs on three Sundays before the Historical Village opens for the summer season.

Step inside Heritage Park’s new 1951 diesel-electric locomotive, the first new engine added to the Park’s rail collection in nearly 50 years. With space for only two guests per departure, this exclusive upgrade places you inside the locomotive cab alongside the engineer for a rare, behind-the-scenes rail experience.
Take in unmatched views from the very front of the Springtime Express and experience this powerful piece of Canadian rail history from the place where it comes to life.

Heritage Park is grateful to Prairies Economic Development Canada and Travel Alberta for their generous support in the restoration of the new diesel-electric locomotive and for helping expand tourism within the Historical Village throughout the year.
The full experience is approximately 105 minutes from departure to return.
The train cars are not heated. We recommend dressing in warm layers so you can stay comfortable throughout your journey.
No. Admission to Gasoline Alley Museum is not included with your Springtime Express ticket.
No. Guests are permitted to enter the Park 15 to 30 minutes before their scheduled departure time and are expected to depart once the experience concludes.
Strollers are not permitted on the train. We recommend leaving them in your vehicle for the duration of the experience.
Yes. Heritage Park offers an accessibility railcar to ensure guests of all abilities can enjoy the journey. If you require accommodations, we recommend contacting Guest Services in advance.
Please plan to arrive 15 to 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time to allow for check-in and boarding.

This event operates rain, shine or snow. However, the locomotive will not run if temperatures, including windchill, reach -20°C. If the event is cancelled due to extreme weather, refunds will be issued.
