Duties and Responsibilities

• Feeds and handles assigned livestock;
• Maintains relevant pens and other areas related to Agriculture Programming in a neat and clean condition;
• Assists in harnessing teams and keeping harness and equipment clean and in good repair;
• Assists other Agriculture Programming Staff as needed with hitching/unhitching of horses;
• Repairs fences/gates and buildings as necessary;
• Gathers eggs as required;
• Assists in various farming tasks including ploughing and harvesting, etc.;
• Provides service and information to guests in a friendly and courteous manner;
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• High School completion;
• Study in a post-secondary field related to agriculture is an asset;
• Previous experience working on a farm or ranch is also preferred;
• Familiarity with livestock, their care and how to properly maintain the ranch/farm area is important.

Skills

• Applicants must be organized and alert while working around livestock.
• The ability to learn new methods or procedures is also important;
• Tact and good verbal communication skills in dealing with our employees and guests are essentia;
• Fluency in English is essential.

Special Clothing and Equipment

• This is a costumed position with costumes(s) to be provided by Heritage Park;
•   Appropriate footwear, as designated by the Costume Department at Heritage Park, will be provided by the employee.

Special Working Conditions

• This position involves some amount of physical labour;
• As this is largely an outdoor position, exposure to a variety of weather conditions is certain;
• Working with livestock also implies a degree of unpredictability.

Hours of Work

• Commitment to five days per week for the summer (may include weekends) plus weekends during fall; hours vary.
