New Season, New Reasons to Play Big This Summer at Heritage Park

Calgary, AB — Step back into history and board a train-ride to adventure at Heritage Park, opening on May 17! Explore the fully reopened Historical Village, take in the views from the S.S. Moyie paddlewheeler, savour fresh summer flavours at the Selkirk, experience the thrill of the Antique Midway, and so much more — all part of a bigger, bolder season of historical fun.

Be one of the first to experience Alberta’s rich arts and culture history with brand-new exhibitions and experiences that celebrate the bold stories, colourful traditions and timeless spirit of the Prairies. Try your hand at Indigenous art using earth pigments and traditional tools, then open the curtain on Prairie Royalty, a new exhibit showcasing the unforgettable queens, icons, fashion trends and trailblazers who have shaped prairie culture across generations.

“Heritage Park is bringing history to life in big and bold new ways this summer,” says Lindsey Galloway, President & CEO of Heritage Park. “This season is about celebrating the creativity, resilience and spirit that built the Prairies — through hands-on activities, art, live music, storytelling and shared experiences that connect us to the past. And of course, the Park traditions our guests know and love are back too, with a few fresh twists. It’s fun for the whole family.”

Throughout the summer, guests will find plenty of ways to play big — from painting in nature at the Warden’s Cabin and linocut printmaking at the Strathmore Standard, to learning 1910-era music in the schoolhouse and exploring the art of Chinese calligraphy at Wing Chong Laundry.

Indigenous programming takes centre stage at Heritage Park this summer with #hopeandhealingcanada, a powerful fibre art installation by Métis artist Tracey-Mae Chambers. Created with hand-crafted red yarn, the piece invites reflection and conversation around reconciliation and connection. Then, on June 21, Heritage Park honours National Indigenous Peoples Day with a day of reflection, celebration and community — and invites visitors to take part in a Powwow and Campfire Chats in partnership with the University of Calgary.

Later this summer, Heritage Park will launch an exciting new paleontology experience on Resource Ridge. Focused on The Great Canadian Dinosaur Rush of 1910–1917, this immersive exhibit will explore the intense competition to unearth Alberta’s world famous fossils, including interactive elements and a hands-on discovery zone.

Beginning in July, the popular Music in the Plaza concert series returns every Wednesday evening, bringing live performances from local and regional artists to the heart of the Park. Markets in the Plaza also launch in July, offering guests a vibrant mix of artisan vendors, entertainment and unique shopping in a lively outdoor setting.

With a fresh seasonal menu at the Selkirk, horse-drawn wagon rides through the Historical Village, charming encounters with farm animals, old-fashioned ice cream making and cultural programming happening daily, Heritage Park promises a summer filled with history, fun and fresh discoveries at every turn.
