PD Day Camps
When Teachers Are Away, Send Kids to Learn and Play!
When school’s out for the day, send your kids to Heritage Park’s PD Day Camps for a day of fun and learning! From September 2024 to May 2025, we’ve got a lineup of hands-on, history-filled adventures that your kids will love. Whether it’s exploring the prairies, discovering technology from the past, or learning about Indigenous ways of life, each camp offers a unique experience. Plus, book five or more days at once, and you’ll get a 10% discount! It’s the perfect way to plan ahead and give your kids an unforgettable day at the Park.

Dates: Sept. 27, 2024 – May 16, 2025
Times
- Camp Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Drop-Off Time: 8 – 9 a.m.
- Pick-Up Time: 4 – 5 p.m.
- Camper Ages: 6 – 11. Campers may be divided into two groups depending on camp registration numbers.
Price Per Camper
- $75 plus GST.
- Sign your camper up for five or more days at one time and get an automatic 10% discount!
Important Additional Information and Cancellation Policy
- Payment in full is required at the time of booking. Refunds are available for cancellations up to 14 days prior to a camp start date, but a $25 administrative fee will apply.
- In specific cases, such as illness or unforeseen situations, please reach out to schools@heritagepark.ca or by phone at 403-268-8616 to discuss potential solutions.
- Registration closes at 9:00 am two days before the camp.
- A minimum number of registrations is required for program to run. If minimum numbers are not reached 5 days prior to camp date, camps will be cancelled, and all registered participants will receive a full refund.
- We do not offer PD Day Camps for anyone under the age of 6 years old. Campers must be the specified age for each session within five days of the camp day. No exceptions.

Sept. 27, 2024: The Prairie Way
Explore how Indigenous peoples and early settlers lived on the Prairies. Visit the Bison Exhibit and learn the many ways in which this animal was essential to Indigenous survival! Enjoy some traditional food, activities, crafts, and games.
Oct. 25, 2024: Halloween Spooktacular
Join us for a fun-filled Halloween celebration! Learn more about this special day and how it was observed on the Prairies. Enjoy some Halloween themed games, activities, and spooky family-friendly stories at the Prince House… if you dare!
Nov. 8, 2024: Life on The Farm
Have you ever wondered what farm life was like 100 years ago? Visit the Burnside Ranch House to learn about the animals and the grain harvest on a mixed prairie farm. Find out how farm kids spent their time, play some games and have some “old-fashioned” fun!
Nov. 11, 2024: Technology Changes Lives
Discover how the advantages of technology changed life throughout the last century. Learn about some exciting ideas and inventions that have made life a whole lot easier! Try out our grain mill and make your own flour!
Nov. 12, 2024: Little Town on The Prairies
As settlers migrated west in the early 1900s, many businesses sprung up in small prairie towns. Imagine what sort of job you might have done back then – from postmaster to dentist to switchboard operator. You will get a chance to create your own postcard to mail to your family!
Nov. 13, 2024: Get Ready for A Prairie Winter
Would you trade your warm house for a sod hut in January? Learn how the Indigenous peoples and settlers prepared to survive a prairie winter. Examine the types of shelters people used and try your hand at insulating a cabin wall!
Jan. 31, 2025: How We Get Around
Imagine going to school on horseback or in a 1920’s Model-T. Delve into the variety of ways humans have moved from place to place – from horsepower to steam to fossil fuel powered automobiles. Check out the trolleys, trains, cars… and don’t forget the horses!
Feb. 13, 2025: It’s a Colourful World
Discover the different ways to be creative by exploring a variety of historical arts and crafts that will challenge your imagination. You will learn how to make your own natural pigments, paper, and horsehair paintbrush. The program promises to be fun for artists and non-artists alike!
Feb. 14, 2025: Community Music and Theatre
Have you ever wondered how people entertained themselves before there was television, cell phones and video games? If you can believe it, there were many great ways to have fun before electricity. Join us for this creative day of old-time fun and frolic!
March 24, 2025: Prairie DIY (Do it yourself)!
Before shopping malls and grocery stores were readily available, life on the prairies required resourcefulness and ingenuity! Indigenous peoples and early settlers had to use what they could find on the land to meet their daily needs. Here’s your chance to try your skill at a range of fun “Do it Yourself” projects.
March 25, 2025: Secrets the Land Holds
Can you believe that the land we’re standing on was once an ancient lake? Discover the fascinating archaeology and geology of the Alberta prairies. We explore the prairies’ physical history through unique land features and the stories that fossils can tell us. Get ready to create your own fossil!
March 26, 2025: Water Systems on the Prairies
Explore the importance of water in Alberta and the ways Indigenous peoples and settlers used water. Discover how this mighty resource changed the land through flooding and erosion and learn about the wide variety of plants and creatures that live in Alberta waterways, rivers, and wetlands. Build your own terrarium to take home!
March 27, 2025: The Urban Forest
The mountains west of Calgary are home to great forests, but did you know that we have many natural environments right here at Heritage Park? From the mountains to the plains and everything in between, explore the Park’s biodiversity. This will be a day full of exploration and creating crafts to use in your own backyard.
March 28, 2025: Finding your Way
Before we had Google maps, people had to rely on traditional navigation techniques such as land features, maps, and the stars to find their way around. Basic survival skills were also essential. This is your opportunity to learn some tips and tricks for surviving in the wilderness. Test your new-found skills with an orienteering activity.
May 16, 2025: Spring in Full Swing
Spring is in full swing at Heritage Park! Explore the wonders of the season when the flowers are in bloom and the bees are humming. Join us for some springtime crafts and activities that are sure to be fun for everyone – like planting a native wildflower to take home!
