Antique Car
General Motors of Canada traces its roots to a small farm in eastern Ontario. Although his father wanted him to be a farmer, Robert McLaughlin preferred woodworking, and started a small carriage works in 1869. In its heyday in 1904, the McLaughlin Carriage Company manufactured over 14,000 horse-drawn vehicles. McLaughlin was not keen to build cars, describing them as noisy, smelly and just a passing fad, but his sons invested in the new technology and built the first “McLaughlin-Buick”.
