Heritage Park offers Southern Alberta educators some of the most innovative, interactive and memorable field trip experiences available connected to the Program of Studies.

Our school programming takes you right into our heritage homes and buildings to introduce you to the captivating and intriguing lives of Western Canada’s pioneers. With a wide variety of role-playing, discovery opportunities and curriculum-based school programs, there’s a program that will pique the interest of students attending kindergarten through grade 9 and beyond.

Explore the authentic and engaging programs that we offer. Many of our programs are only half a day; we encourage you to book two half day programs to maximize your time at the Park.

We have launched three new Educational Programs:

“Resource Ridge Program” for Grade 7 Students

Overview:

The Resource Ridge Program (RRP) has been developed to introduce students the various resources that were available during the turn of the century in the southern region of Alberta. Specifically, the RRP is designed to connect students’ experiences with a focus on the grade 7 Program of Studies (This can be scaled up a grade and down a grade with consultation). The RRP is designed to specifically ask students to enter the Learning through the lens of the Science Program of Studies. Connections can be developed over time with the Language Arts, Social Studies, and Math Programs of Study. This creates an opportunity for a Grade 7 Learning Team to engage in a cross-curricular experience, fostering a rich, dynamic, and efficient learning environment for students. 

“Water is Life” Program for Grades 3-6 Students

Overview:

When you turn on the tap and clean water comes out, have you ever wondered where that water came from? In this program, students discover how water, as a natural resource and sustainer of life, was used and managed by Indigenous, settlers, and Calgarians in the past. Explore the diverse ecosystem of the Bissett Wetlands and the many vital functions wetlands have performed and continue to do today. Become forward thinkers for our city as we discuss how human activities and natural processes change and shape our environment and how water resources need to be managed respectfully, all while contemplating that we as individuals have a role to play in environmental conservation.  

“Guided Field Experience” for Grades 1-10 Students

Overview:

This is a Program where Teachers have created essential questions they are looking for students to explore with experts. Through working with Educators, we will design a day experience here where students will be guided through the stories, sites, and artifacts here at Heritage Park. We have several sites that can support direct teaching opportunities after a site visit. In working with knowledgeable staff at Heritage Park, Educators will have their students arrive with questions they need to explore as they visit sites and hear stories of the past.

Fun on the Farm is happening on October 7th, 2026!

Fun on the Farm is an educational event where kids experience life on the farm as it was over a century ago. Step back in time and dig into the roots of agriculture at Heritage Park’s Fun on the Farm. Take your students on a journey from field to fork — and back in time. This event is a Full Day, Self-Guided interactive experience for Grades 2-6.
