About the 1918 Chevrolet 490 Touring Car

The no-frills Chevrolet 490 was designed as a direct challenge to the popular Ford Model T. The car was named for its selling price of $490; electric lights and starter were available for an extra $60. Successful sales enabled Chevrolet Motor Company’s owner, William Durant, to regain control of General Motors Corporation, a company he had founded and lost several years earlier.  This particular Chevrolet 490 touring car originally belonged to Alberta homesteader William Croxford of Airdrie.
