About the Airdrie House

This home was donated to Heritage Park in 1964, and was built by Samuel John Bushfield in Airdrie, Alberta, in 1906. It is an example of the comfortable, but modest and plain home design found on many western Canadian streets prior to 1915.

Two-storey frame houses such as this one were prevalent in the towns, villages and farms of western Canada before the First World War. These simple houses were very popular with middle-class western Canadians, and many are still standing in towns and cities throughout the region.
