About the Eugene Coste Park

Since 1912, Eugene Coste has been known as the man who brought natural gas to Calgary. His 16-inch diameter pipeline stretched from his productive well at Bow Island to Calgary, and it was the longest pipeline of that type in the world.

In 1975, Heritage Park decided to install a natural gas lighting system around the 1910 townsite to provide illumination for various evening events. To commemorate Coste’s life, a small, formal garden park was also dedicated to the Amherstburg, Ontario native.
