About the Farm Implement Shed

The Farm Implement Shed is where the Park stores antique farming equipment and machinery. Since farmers used their equipment based on seasonal needs, having a facility to store the various types of equipment was important.

As soon as the spring run-off was over, farmers began cultivating the soil, sowing their grain with a seeder and harrowed the ground. As the crops were maturing during the hot summer, hay mowers and rakes cut and windrowed the tall grass for stacking as winter feed. In autumn, all attention was focused on the harvest and a threshing machine was often used to cut, stook and thresh the grain. The thresher was such an expensive piece of equipment that local farmers would pool their money to purchase one. The cold arrival of winter meant a slowing in the pace of farm life and less equipment being used.
