About the Program
The story of the sacrifices and contributions of the thousands of Chinese workers who left their homes and families in China in the early 1880s, to help construct the Canadian Pacific Railway through the Fraser and Thompson River Canyons in British Columbia, is a story filled with tears, toil, and triumph. Experience some of the incredible challenges faced by these workers while learning about personal sacrifice, backbreaking work, impenetrable terrain, railway history, intolerance, and prejudicial practices. The contributions these Chinese workers made to the building of the CPR and Canada should be understood, appreciated and honoured.
