Quilt Return

Quilt Return will be held on Monday, May 27, 2024, between the hours of 10 am and 7 pm in the Railway Orientation Centre. Your quilts must be received at this time and location in order to be displayed in the Park. Remember, we have 90-minute free parking available and Railway Café is also open at 9 am to grab a coffee and a sweet treat from the Alberta Bakery.

Displays

It’s never too late to start a new quilt, large or small! The Park’s annual quilt collection is contributed by local quilters like you, creating a non-judged exhibition for enthusiasts to showcase their latest creations. All quilts, with a minimum perimeter size of 60 inches are welcome. We ask that you exclude delicate embellishments that are easily damaged. The Festival committee makes display decisions based on safety and style, with a limit of five quilts per participant across General, Group, and Special Displays. Join us in sharing your quilting artistry and contributing to a vibrant community event. Scroll down to learn about the different quilt categories and submit your quilt entry!

Group Displays:

These are like a build-your-own Special Display. These displays are by a small group of at least 3-10 members, so choose a pattern or theme and be excited to see your quilts displayed together.

There is a limit of 10 groups with a maximum of 10 quilts per group, first-come first-served!

House quilts:

Let’s get building! Many popular quilt blocks are based on a house shape — we would like to see your schoolhouses, tiny houses, any recognizable dwelling. Note that this excludes traditional “log cabin” blocks unless they have a roof. Your house(s) need to cover the majority of the quilt — bring all the neighbours to the party.

Diamond quilts:

2024 is the Diamond Jubilee (60th Anniversary) of Heritage Park. Let’s help with the celebration by showing our most sparkling, multi-faceted, diamond quilts. Diamond quilts are all about the angles. We are not looking for square blocks on point, but the more pointy kind of diamonds. The majority of the patches can be diamonds, the design can make a diamond, or the diamonds can be combined into other shapes. Bring out your gems!

Creative Kids quilts:

Go kids go! Young quilters (16 years old and younger) who create a quilt  with a little help from a friend are invited to display their quilt(s) at the Festival. Don’t forget the outer perimeter must be a minimum of 60 inches.

Special Displays:

House quilts, Diamond quilts and Creative Kids make up our Special Displays for 2024.

Quilt Entry Registration is Now Closed!

Quilter of Distinction 2024

In honour of Heritage Park’s 60th anniversary, the Festival of Quilts recognizes the dedicated service of its committee members. Instead of an individual Quilter of Distinction, this year celebrates the collective contributions of hard-working women who have volunteered over 40,000 hours in 25 years. The exhibit highlights each member’s passion for quilting and their volunteer achievements. Members will choose a symbolic quilt representing their identity and achievements, showcasing the power of a united group with a shared passion. The park expresses gratitude to all committee members for personifying the spirit of the Quilter of Distinction, with the traditional process resuming in 2025.

Heritage Park Block Competition and Raffle

The 2024 Block Competition will be “Trains” and the cost for a kit will be $7.00. Get yours at the Information Booth in the Celebration Tent, and while your there, purchase a catalogue as well!

There will also be a raffle quilt up for grabs, titled “Bee Happy!”.

All contributors’ blocks, including the winners, go on display at Heritage Park during the Once Upon A Christmas event. The blocks will then be assembled into a beautiful quilt ready to be raffled at a future Festival.

Thanks to all contributors of blocks for the 2023 “Birds and their Houses” block competition, and congratulations to the winners!

A special thank you to My Sewing Room for sponsoring this year’s block competition.
